NTT Com Enhances Software-Defined Services Under SDx+M Solution Strategy

Software-Defined Network Services and Software-Defined Exchange to launch March 30

TOKYO, JAPAN — NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), the ICT solutions and international communications business within the NTT Group (TYO:9432), announced today its launch of software-defined (SD) services and a suite of technologies with enhanced managed services under the name of SDx+M (Software Defined Everything and Management) Solution. This new solution encapsulates NTT Com’s vision for software programmable networking, cloud and infrastructure environments. Clients will be able to leverage the suite of technologies and services to create highly flexible and agile ICT environments that are fully tailored to their specific IT requirements. The first two service components of the SDx+M Solution suite to launch are the Software-Defined Network Service and the Software-Defined Exchange Service on March 30. New Managed Services functions to comprehensively support SDx+M Solution will also launch on the same day.

Key Components of SDx+M Solution Suite

[Figure 1]

1) Hybrid ICT for addressing customer tailored requirements

Hybrid Clouds: Customers can flexibly combine cloud services from multiple cloud providers with their on-premises systems, such as simultaneously using a private cloud for core systems and PaaS for cloud-native applications, as well as hyperscale and other cloud services.

Hybrid Networks: Customers can flexibly combine diverse networks to seamlessly connect all global offices, as well as massive IoT devices and smartphones, for cost optimization and rapid deployment of new locations as well as centralized management.

2) Secure network connectivity with flexibility and agility throughout ICT environments

Inter-cloud Connectivity: Secure connections are possible between cloud services of different cloud providers and between clouds and data centers on demand at low cost via large-capacity, high-speed networks.

Connectivity between Clouds and Networks: Diverse global locations and devices can be securely connected with clouds via closed networks, on demand and at low cost.

3) Help clients to expand their global ICT environments

One-stop Visualization: One-stop visualization of ICT resource usage and status is offered for clouds, networks and applications, enabling customers to reduce this burden on ICT system operations while optimizing operational status.

Automated Security and Operations Management: An automated collaborative protection service is offered based on SD technologies, in addition to precise detection of unknown threats based on correlation analysis of logs. These services automate monitoring and other regular operations and enable efficient management of complicated ICT environments.

New Services Supporting SDx+M Solution

1) Software-Defined Network Service (SD-NS) – launching March 30th

SD-NS is a type of SD-WAN service for flexible deployment and management of overlay networks through software-based control over multiple circuits, such as IP VPN, internet, mobile and dedicated circuits. SD-NS enables customers to choose/combine optimal circuits (underlay) to connect various devices to clouds. The service enables rapid responses to deployment of new applications and modification of network configurations due to organizational restructuring. When using SaaS such as Microsoft Office 365, both direct connectivity and connectivity via a gateway from the customer site to the internet are possible in accordance with security policies. NFV features enable even more efficient and dynamic network configurations (*1).

2) Software-Defined Exchange Service (SD-Exchange) – launching March 30th

SD-Exchange offers globally seamless, high-speed and secure connectivity between NTT Com’s Enterprise Cloud and Nexcenter colocation and multiple cloud services including Amazon Web Services (AWS) . Additional functions, such as security and load balancer, will be available on demand at low cost.SD-Exchange enables rapid deployment of hybrid- and multi-cloud environments (*2). For example, customers can immediately establish connectivity for data exchange and disaster recover-as-a-service (DRaaS) between multiple clouds for storage of various types of data.

3) Global Management One – available, but with new features launching March 30th

Global Management One, NTT Com’s managed ICT service, has been enhanced to now encapsulate the new SD-NS and SD-Exchange. The expanded scope will enable global full-lifecycle support for entire ICT environments, ranging from design and deployment to maintenance/operation/analysis. ICT environments incorporating new technologies can be used deployed securely without having to rely on engineering specialists. (*3).

4) Cloud Management Platform (CMP) – available, but with new features launching March 30th

CMP enables one-stop management of on-premises systems and cloud services such as Enterprise Cloud, AWS and Microsoft Azure. Newly enhanced features will enable customers to view resource information of target devices used in SD-NS and check resource information on services connected in SD-Exchange. Entire ICT environments, including network resources, can be viewed for further optimization of business environments (*4).

Digital transformation requires enterprises to prudently balance secure, reliable ICT with flexible, agile ICT. To do this, most enterprises simultaneously use cloud and network services of multiple providers, depending on the purpose. As the growing complexity of enterprise ICT systems increases the operations-management workload, enterprises have been seeking one-stop solutions that enable them to visualize entire ICT systems and ensure productive operations. In response, NTT Com is extensively deploying SD technologies for cloud services/solutions throughout customer ICT environments.

Going forward, NTT Com will continue to enhance SDx+M Solution with features for increasingly flexible and rapid deployment and operation of entire ICT systems comprising networks, clouds, applications and more. NTT Com is committed to business innovation in partnership with customers, ICT providers and sales partners.
