NTT Communications Corporation
NTT Com Osaka 7 Data Center Certified under
NVIDIA DGX-Ready Data Center Program
TOKYO, JAPAN, Sept 12, 2024 — NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), which operates under the enterprise business brand “docomo business” within the DOCOMO group, announced today that one of its colocation data centers has been certified under the NVIDIA DGX-Ready Data Center program, validating it as a secure data center where enterprises can run their AI and other demanding applications leveraging NVIDIA accelerated computing infrastructure.1 The certification was awarded in respect of the company’s Osaka 7 Data Center (OS7) in Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture.
The NVIDIA DGX-Ready Data Center program certifies data centers’ ability to host high-density2 accelerated computing systems such as the NVIDIA DGX platform, as well as to accommodate supercomputer clusters like NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD, taking storage and cooling facilities into consideration. NTT Com has also joined the NVIDIA Partner Network as a data center provider.
Within the OS7 data center, NTT Com provides high-quality, reliable network services, exceptional connectivity incorporating Internet Exchange (IX) points3—hubs interconnecting ISPs and various other service providers—and optimal network environments. The OS7 facility can accommodate the high-density, high-efficiency racks required for applications such as generative AI, making them an ideal environment for operators looking to locate cutting-edge systems and large-scale computing systems.
OS7 as Green Nexcenter®
It is planned that the OS7 will become a “Green Nexcenter®” colocation data center equipped to support liquid-cooling systems4 for high density and accelerated computing systems. In addition, NTT Com offers the “APN Dedicated Line Plan powered by IOWN” service, which connects data centers with ultra-high speed wide bandwidth, cloud-based NVIDIA GPU services, and other networking and storage facilities, to support corporate and operator ICT environments.
The main features of the OS7 data center are as follows:
1.Green Nexcenter®
NTT Com’s Green Nexcenter® offering will be an environmentally friendly, ultra-energy-efficient data center facility, an evolution of its existing "Nexcenter" data center incorporating a liquid-cooling system. This will provide energy-efficient cooling that far surpasses traditional methods, and will therefore allow the accommodation of high-density servers that are difficult to manage in conventional data centers. Additionally, its utilization of renewable energy will provide a cutting-edge data center service that achieves carbon neutrality.
2.All-Photonics Network (APN)
NTT Com is connecting its approximately 70 data centers nationwide, including OS7, using the APN Dedicated Line Plan powered by IOWN, one of the key technical aspects of the IOWN concept,5 a cutting-edge optical transmission technology that achieves ultra-high-speed performance with minimal fluctuations and ultra-low power consumption.
3.NVIDIA accelerated computing operating environments
NTT Com plans to offer NVIDIA accelerated computing operating environments by utilizing Green Nexcenter®, network services, storage, and other peripheral solutions, tailored to meet specific customer needs and use cases for servers with NVIDIA GPUs.
OS7 Specification & Benefits
OS7, which became operational in December 2019, features a server room area of approximately 4,600m2, with plans to expand this to around 9,500m2. It is situated in an area where there is a low risk of natural disasters such as earthquakes and flooding, and offers easy access from the cities of Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe. OS7 is a campus-style data center6 that can be flexibly customized per building or floor to cater to a variety of customer requirements.
Future Prospects
In order to meet the growing demand for generative AI and other cutting-edge applications, NTT Com will equip more of its data centers with Green Nexcenter® facilities capable of cooling high-density servers and offering low power consumption. The first of these is scheduled to be offered at the company’s Yokohama 1 Data Center in March 2025, along with the OS7 in the Kansai region. The company is also proceeding with the installation of Green Nexcenter® as standard equipment at its Keihanna Data Center (tentative name), which is scheduled to open in March 2026 in Seika-cho, Kyoto Prefecture.
1 “Accelerated computing” enhances the processing of demanding applications such as AI, data analysis, simulation, and visualization by leveraging parallel processing techniques
2 “High density”: large power capacity per area
3 "IX": an interconnection point where ISPs and data center operators exchange route information and traffic.
4 "Liquid-cooling system": a method of cooling that uses a cold plate, a metal component placed over the CPU/GPU inside the server, to conduct coolant.
5 “The IOWN concept”: a network and information processing infrastructure conceived using cutting-edge optical technologies. NTT Com is a member of the IOWN Global Forum™, which promotes IOWN.
6 “Campus-style data center”: a facility with ample space for expansion, allowing for flexible scaling according to demand
