TOKYO, JAPAN - NTT Communications (NTT Com) announced today that it will introduce extra-user-friendly pricing and highly practical service choices for its HOTSPOT™ public wireless local area network (WLAN) service in Japan beginning October 1.
As part of the launch campaign, anyone who signs up between October 1 and December 28 will have their initial signup fee of 1,575 yen (including tax) waived (tie-ins with other campaigns are not accepted).
The new plan offers three different courses:
Course 1
399 yen (including tax) monthly
- MacDonald’s restaurants
- Above-ground rail stations

- N700 Series cars of Tokaido Shinkansen trains between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka

Course 3, the premium HOTSPOT service, represents a substantial reduction from the current top-ranked plan’s monthly charge of 2,499 yen. Moreover, customers currently paying 1,680 yen under an existing plan will enjoy double the number of access points with the new premium course.
Besides the access points available on a flat-rate basis, course 1 or 2 customers can use the extra access points of each other’s course for an additional 315 yen (including tax) per day. The charge is applied from 0:00 to 24:00, and is waived for the rest of any given month after eight days of use.
Global Roaming, which is optionally available for all three courses, is charged by one- or ten-minute increments or a one-day flat rate basis. Rates vary by country and method of access.
The new plan is expected to enjoy great popularity among the growing number of users who seek high-speed WLAN connection using mobile devices.
Corporate customers subscribing to a separate course, HOTSPOT Business 3G, can also enjoy wireless access via both sister company NTT DOCOMO’s 3G mobile FOMA™ network and all HOTSPOT WLAN access points for a flat monthly rate of 4,980 yen (including tax).
