NTT Com to Strengthen Data Center Profile in Tokyo Metropolitan Area
TOKYO, JAPAN - NTT Communications (NTT Com) announced today it will open a new more than 10,000-square-meter data center in Tokyo by the first quarter of 2011, and also expand an existing data center in Kanagawa Prefecture to 39,000 square meters next month, thereby providing customers with new options and expanded capacity for their ICT outsourcing needs.
The new Tokyo No.5 Data Center will offer 1,700 server racks when completed, while the existing Yokohama No.1 Data Center will add 950 racks for a total of 5,650 and increase its floor space by 6,400 square meters.
By offering world-class quality and reliability with less environmental impact, the two data centers will enable customers to better meet their ICT outsourcing needs, strengthen disaster-recovery planning for business continuity, utilize implement Green ICT and expand their options for cloud-computing solutions.
The Tokyo No.5 Data Center will function exclusively as a data center, supported by advanced measures for earthquake resistance, power supply, air conditioning and communication.
The site of the Yokohama No.1 Data Center was specially selected for its firm geological foundation and comparatively high elevation to ensure continued operation in the event of earthquakes or other natural disasters. The site also is about 20 kilometers from the center of Tokyo, providing an extra measure of regional backup in the event of a disaster in the Tokyo metropolitan area.
When the Tokyo No.5 Data Center comes on line, NTT Com’s existing Tokyo Metropolitan District Multi Data Center will link a total of seven data centers in Tokyo and surrounding environs. Connection by NTT Com’s robust, high-quality network will provide virtual access to each data center for enhanced reliability and scalability.
