NTT Com and Microsoft Expand Hybrid Cloud Partnership,
Starting with Biz Hosting Enterprise and Windows Azure
TOKYO, JAPAN - NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) and Microsoft Japan Co. Ltd. (Microsoft Japan) jointly announced today a new "hybrid cloud" service and enhanced partnership to merge NTT Com's Biz Hosting Enterprise private cloud service, offered under the company's "BizCITY" suite of virtual enterprise services accessible securely from virtually anyplace at anytime, and the Microsoft public cloud platform Windows Azure, consisting of computing, storage, networking, database and content cloud services.
NTT Com's Biz Hosting Enterprise and Windows Azure from Microsoft will be merged as a single, integrated "hybrid cloud" service to help customers reduce their risk as they transition from on-premises datacenters to cloud services.
Since 2007, Biz Hosting Enterprise has been providing enterprise-class security and customization required by multinational companies and ISVs. The dedicated hosted private cloud service combines the high performance of NTT Com's Tier 1 backbone with global communications networks built with Microsoft products such as Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V, Microsoft SQL Server, System Center and Exchange Server.
Now, with the addition of Windows Azure, customers in Japan will benefit from even greater flexibility and simplicity when adopting cloud services. Among the new offering's key benefits:
1) Enterprise customers, ISVs and SI partners are familiar with the Windows platform.
2) Windows Azure provides scalability, which can help lower the total cost of ownership for cloud services that require extensive compute resources, burst capacity or have unpredictable application usage.
In addition, NTT Com provides a centralized management portal in both English and Japanese, which allows customers to manage applications on both the Biz Hosting private cloud platform and Windows Azure. Customers can manage storage and networking resources, Windows Azure services and resources such as CPU usage within NTT Com datacenters.
In the future, NTT Com plans to include additional Microsoft cloud services, such as Microsoft Office 365, in its hybrid cloud offerings.
Nobuyoshi Yokoi, Senior Director, Communications Sector, Microsoft Japan, said: "We are excited to provide this hybrid cloud service from NTT Com, providing a best-of-breed cloud blending both high security and a trusted platform, including broad network coverage, significant scalability and low-cost capability for enterprise, SI and ISV customers. We look forward to extending our cloud capabilities through this alliance."
